Children’s Table Cooking Classes

2013 Winter & Spring Series

Children’s Table is a “hands-on” cooking class that strives to inspire and enable young people to make healthy food choices through the hands-on joy of food preparation. Children ages 6-13 prepare up to 5 recipes within a 2 hour class Saturday mornings 9:30-11:30. Each class has a different theme with a focus on different cuisine, produce, ingredients and occasionally a special guest speaker helps the students get a new perspective on the foods they prepare and eat.  

Our goals are to:

  • Teach the value of good nutrition and food safety as a lifelong skill.
  • Encourage cooking as a manageable, rewarding and creative endeavor.
  • Nurture overall self-confidence and self-worth.
  • Be available to all children from across the socioeconomic spectrum.

 

April

13th   Passover

In a season of remembrance let us focus on tradition foods from the bible. This week we learn about the Passover story by making some tasty traditional treats.

27th   New Food New Treats

April is the perfect time to try something new. This month we begin to enjoy the first treats from the garden as we explore seasonal foods in some new and interesting ways.

May

11th   A Trip to Asia

This month we celebrate Asian Heritage Month by preparing traditional Asian and Pacific American recipes with some fun new twists.

25th   It’s Barbeque Time

Summer is officially on its way and this month we focus on recipes that pair with the smoky scent of the grill. Except salads and sides that can be shared with a crowd.
